The CW's latest DC Comics-inspired show debuts in 2018
May 18, 2017A former superhero comes out of retirement in the first trailer for “Black Lightning,” the CW’s new DC Comics-inspired series set to air in 2018.
Dropped Thursday during the network’s upfront presentations, the first-look trailer (above) tells the story of Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams), a vigilante-turned-principal who has the power to harness electricity but prefers fighting the good fight out of costume. As a crime wave threatens his family and his city, however, Jefferson must once again become Black Lightning.
Based on a DC Comics superhero created by Tony Isabella with Trevor Von Eeden, “Black Lightning” is being executive produced by Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter, the superhero TV gurus behind “Arrow” and “The Flash,” as well as Salim Akil and Mara Brock Akil. Co-stars include Nafessa Williams, China Anne McClain, and Christine Adam.
“Black Lightning” will debut in 2018 as part of the CW’s midseason lineup.
