VIDEO: Jim Henson Narrates First Teaser for Netflix’s ‘Dark Crystal’ Revival

“The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance” will serve as a prequel series to the groundbreaking 1982 fantasy film

The late Jim Henson is front-and-center in the first teaser for Netflix’s upcoming prequel series “The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance,” based on Henson and Frank Oz’s groundbreaking, puppet-filled fantasy-adventure film that wowed audiences back in 1982.

Focusing primarily on the craftsmanship and care that went into making “The Dark Crystal,” the short video (above) includes several intriguing bits of voiceover from Henson himself about how proud he was of his work.

There aren’t any “Age of Resistance” footage or plot details, however, though reports indicate the 10-episode series takes place many years before the start of the original and will again include fantastical creatures courtesy of Jim Henson’s Creature Shop and Brian Froud—who designed the originals. Louis Leterrier (“Now You See Me”) will direct and executive produce the series, which doesn’t yet have a release date but begins filming this fall in the U.K.

“’The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance’ will combine the art of puppetry perfected by the Jim Henson Company, with Louis’ vision, powerful storytelling and a mix of cutting-edge digital imagery and visual effects,” said Cindy Holland, VP Original Content at Netflix, in a statement. “I can’t wait for families around the world to see how we bring these unique characters to life.”
