Stephen Colbert, Lin-Manuel Miranda to Perform at 2017 Tonys

CBS has added “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert and “Hamilton” mastermind Lin-Manuel Miranda to the 2017 Tony Awards, according to the Los Angeles Times. The last-minute additions were announced Thursday, just three days before the network will broadcast Broadway’s biggest award show live from Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

While both stars are scheduled to perform, it’s not yet clear what that entails. Regardless, neither is a stranger to the award show spotlight—”Hamilton” won 11 awards at the 2016 Tonys and Colbert has netted several Emmys and Grammys. Additionally, Stephen will emcee the 2017 Emmys for CBS in September.

Colbert also showed off his singing skills during his 2015 visit to the Stern Show, serenading Howard with some “Brown Sugar,” which he learned the lyrics to while in a Rolling Stones cover band way back when. Check out the video of his impromptu karaoke (below).

This year’s Tonys Awards also features performances from the Rockettes, Tony winners Cynthia Erivo (“The Color Purple”) and Leslie Odom Jr. (“Hamilton”), and nominees from some of the year’s biggest productions, including “Bandstand” and “Groundhog Day the Musical.” Actor Kevin Spacey will host.

Tons of A-list celebrities are slated to attend, too, including past Stern Show guests Whoopi Goldberg, Scarlett Johansson, Olivia Wilde, and Sally Field, recent Wrap Up Show guest Nick Kroll, and veteran entertainers Orlando Bloom, Bette Midler, and Mark Hamill, according to Deadline.

CBS’s other late-night host James Corden hosted the Tonys in 2016. He joined the Stern Show just days before the telecast and clued listeners in on what they could expect. “The truth is, the Tony Awards actually is, in terms of entertainment, the best award show you could ever watch,” Corden told Howard.
