VIDEO: Michael Rapaport Is a Family Man in ‘Atypical’

Keir Gilchrist-led Netflix comedy series drops Aug. 11

Netflix has debuted the official trailer for “Atypical,” its upcoming comedy series following a young man on the Autism spectrum struggling to find love, communicate with his family, and fit in with his peers.

The two-minute video (above) starts with the main character Sam (Keir Gilchrist) debriefing his family on his latest therapy session. “She thinks that I should put myself out there and find someone to have sex with,” he says at the dinner table. This of course stuns his parents, played by Stern Show regular Michael Rapaport and recent Oscar-nominee Jennifer Jason Leigh.

While Sam’s social and sexual frustrations fill much of the trailer (“At some point, I really, really hope that I get to see boobs,” he tells his mom), the characters in his orbit aren’t without complications and eccentricities of their own.

Rapaport, for instance, emerges in his underwear at one point after complaining about being unable to find his work pants—a potentially serious problem for an individual who prefers sleeping in the nude.

“Atypical”—also starring Amy Okuda and Brigette Lundy-Paine—drops its eight-episode first season Aug. 11 on Netflix. Check out the official trailer (above).
