Negan is back and nastier than ever in the official Comic-Con trailer for Season 8 of “The Walking Dead.”

The five-minute highlight package for AMC’s critically acclaimed, long-running zombie drama begins with an ominous message from the show’s brutally wicked antagonist, played by Stern Show guest Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

“I hope you got your shittin’ pants on,” Negan tells his captive Gabriel (Seth Gilliam), with a smile. “I hope you’re wearing them right now because you are about to shit your pants.”

The trailer never specifies how Negan intends to make Gabriel defecate in his pants—baby laxatives maybe? Or will he beat the stuffing out of him with Lucille, his (and now also Howard’s) barb wire-wrapped baseball bat? In either case, Gabriel appears sufficiently intimidated.

In addition to Negan getting nasty, the extended look at the new season also features a plethora of zombies as well as updates on several survivors, including Carol (Melissa McBride), Daryl (Norman Reedus), and Rick (Andrew Lincoln). Rick’s new storyline might prove most intriguing among fans, as the trailer shows him waking up in a pristinely maintained hospital sporting a long, white beard—perhaps lending credence to a persistent fan theory which wonders whether the entire zombie apocalypse is just a nightmare Rick is having in the hospital.

When Jeffrey Dean Morgan stopped by the Stern Show last November, he told Howard all about how much fun he has playing the bad guy on set … even after the cameras stop rolling. He joked about how he particularly enjoys trying to get a rise out of Lincoln, who plays his on-screen nemesis. “I really pick on him,” he told Howard. “I think the bigger reaction I can get off camera from him, if I can get him just screaming and swearing then I know I’m doing my job.” Check out the full interview here.

“The Walking Dead” returns to AMC on Sunday, Oct. 22. Check out the trailer from Comic-Con 2017 (above).
