VIDEO: ‘Justice League’ Tries Saving Earth Sans Superman in 4-Minute Trailer

DC Comics team-up film hits theaters Nov. 17

July 24, 2017

There’s a lot to look at in the latest “Justice League” trailer, but perhaps most striking is what audiences don’t see—the Man of Steel.

Though he’s a lynchpin of the superhero super-group in the comic books, Henry Cavill’s Superman died fighting the good fight on screen in 2016’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” In “Justice League,” DC Comics’ first attempt at a team-up film, the hero’s absence seems to be what brings the rest of the crew together.

Warner Bros. just debuted a 4-minute sneak peek at Comic-Con 2017 (above), which shows Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Cyborg, Aquaman, and even Alfred rallying together to try and save the world in the wake of Superman’s demise.

Though it’s filled with action, explosions, and one-liners, the trailer ends with a major cliffhanger—has Superman returned?

According to Variety, he has—and with a mustache. The trade publication reported Warner Bros. has spent $25 million on “Justice League” reshoots and will spend money to digitally remove a mustache on Cavill’s face. The actor had apparently been playing a mustache-sporting character in an upcoming “Mission: Impossible” sequel when the reshoots occurred, so he was unable to rid himself of facial hair.

“Justice League,” directed by Joss Whedon and Zack Snyder, stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, “Game of Thrones” standout Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, and Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth. It opens Nov. 17.
