VIDEO: John Legend Delivers Room Service With a Side of Inspiration in ‘Penthouse Floor’

Stern Show guest's unity-themed new offering features Chance the Rapper

October 13, 2017

John Legend delivers room service with a side of inspiration in the newly released music video for “Penthouse Floor,” featuring Chance the Rapper.

The Stern Show guest’s politically charged song (“They see us reaching for the sky / Just in order to survive”) gets an equally conscientious video, with Legend playing a hotel waiter with dreams of a better life and a better world around him.

His character wades through a fancy ballroom filled with highfalutin snobs, past a sea of cops and protestors, sidesteps a decadent photo shoot, and eventually rides the elevator all the way up to the titular penthouse floor—where the real magic is happening and the aforementioned disparate groups are free to peacefully co-exist.

Legend, who won a Tony Award earlier this year for “Jitney” and now finds himself an Emmy shy of the coveted “EGOT” distinction, sat down with Howard in 2013 for a wide-ranging conversation about his life, upbringing, and incredible career. Watch a clip from the interview (below).
