VIDEO: Margot Robbie Skates Around the Truth as Tonya Harding in ‘I, Tonya’

Hollywood actress transforms into the infamous figure skater in new first look trailer

There’s no such thing as the truth according to “I, Tonya” star Margot Robbie as she portrays disgraced figure skater Tonya Harding in the newly released trailer for the upcoming film (above).

“America, they want someone to love, but they want someone to hate,” Robbie explains after stomping out a cigarette butt with the blade of her ice skate. “The haters always say, ‘Tonya, tell the truth.’ There’s no such thing as truth. I mean, it’s bullshit!”

Shots of Robbie as Harding gliding gracefully over the ice are intercut between scenes of police lights, paparazzi flashbulbs, and an expandable baton being drawn, no doubt bound for the knee of Nancy Kerrigan in the attack that made headlines around the world and eventually ended Harding’s skating career forever.

Playing Harding’s mother LaVona in the film is Allison Janney, seen only quickly at the end of a bar downing a drink in her hand. Janney has won seven Emmy Awards for her various TV roles and is probably best known to Stern Show fans for her portrayal of Howard and Robin’s DC 101 boss in the movie “Private Parts.”

“I, Tonya,” also starring Sebastian Stan (“Captain America”), Bobby Cannavale (“Boardwalk Empire”), and Julianne Nicholson (“August: Osage County”), is scheduled to hit theaters on Dec. 8.
