VIDEO: Melissa McCarthy Gets Schooled in First ‘Life of the Party’ Trailer

Stern Show guest’s back-to-college comedy hits theaters May 11

February 6, 2018

Melissa McCarthy stars as a freshly dumped housewife who rebounds by enrolling in college alongside her daughter in “Life of the Party.”

The upcoming comedy’s newly released trailer (above) begins with her character Deanna getting so frustrated with her life that she begins dragging furniture, toiletries, and wedding photos outside so she can douse them in gasoline and set them ablaze on her lawn—but an unexpected explosion soon sends the repeat Stern Show guest and celebrated physical comedian flying across her yard.

What truly reignites her character’s passion for life, however, is her decision to go back to school. Soon enough she’s doing shots at frat parties, hooking up in the library stacks, answering to the nickname Dee Rock, and completely embarrassing her college-aged daughter with discussions of vaginas.

McCarthy co-wrote the screenplay for “Life of the Party” along with her husband and creative partner Ben Falcone, who also directs. During the actress’s 2016 visit to the Stern Show, Melissa discussed several aspects of her life and career with Howard, including her relationship with Ben, who also directed her in “The Boss.” Check out the full interview here.

“Life of the Party,” co-starring Gillian Jacobs, Julie Bowen, Matt Walsh, Debby Ryan, Jacki Weaver, and McCarthy’s “Bridesmaids” co-star Maya Rudolph, hits theaters May 11.
