VIDEO: Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda Go Fly a Kite in ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ Teaser

Disney trailer debuts during ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel-hosted Oscars telecast

March 5, 2018

Emily Blunt makes her debut as Britain’s most beloved magical nanny in the teaser trailer for Disney’s “Mary Poppins Returns,” hitting theaters this Christmas.

The short teaser for the sequel (above) premiered Sunday night during ABC’s Hein-hitting broadcast of the 2018 Oscars, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. In it, Emily, who replaces Julie Andrews as Ms. Poppins, has returned to London a few decades after the events of the first “Mary Poppins,” when the Banks children she had grown close with are all grown up.

Emily’s Poppins neither sings “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” nor brandishes her iconic umbrella in the clip, but she does make the grandest of entrances, floating down from the sky on a kite anchored by co-star and Pulitzer Prize-winning “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda. Emily made an equally impressive Stern Show debut in 2015 and discussed a variety of topics with Howard in her interview, including nudity in film and how acting helped her overcome her childhood stuttering. Listen to a clip from their conversation (below).

Directed by Rob Marshall (“Into the Woods”), “Marry Poppins Returns” co-stars Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Julie Walters, Angela Lansbury, Ben Whishaw, and Emily Mortimer. It also features a cameo from Dick Van Dyke, who starred opposite Andrews in the 1964 original.

“Mary Poppins Returns” floats into theaters Dec. 25. Watch the official teaser (above).
