Recorded in 1969, the song was partially inspired by the theme from Adam West's “Batman”

On Friday, Jimi Hendrix’s long-awaited posthumous album “Both Sides of the Sky” hit shelves and, with it, the world got a brand new music video for the guitar god’s previously unreleased song “Lover Man.”

Directed by John Vondracek, the psychedelic video (above) features archival footage of Hendrix captured as he performed the track with his Band of Gypsys in December of 1969. The clip is also infused with photographs and home movies of the rock icon, who would be 75 if he were still alive today.

“Lover Man” is a track Hendrix worked on for several years, according to reports, and it drew inspiration from the theme song to “Batman,” starring the recently deceased Adam West. “Imagine Jimi doing a take and when everything falls apart, he’d start playing the ‘Batman’ or ‘Peter Gunn’ theme without missing a beat,” Hendrix’s producer Eddie Kramer told Rolling Stone. “He’d do something really silly and stupid and everybody would be cracking up. He wanted to keep it light. He’d also do it to change it up a bit and inevitably those lines would work themselves into songs, and that’s Jimi’s sly humor.”

As previously reported, “Both Sides of the Sky” features 10 previously unheard Hendrix tracks. It also contains collaborations with fame artists like deceased blues legend Johnny Winter and Stern Show veteran Steven Stills. When Stills, a two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, joined the Stern Show in 2009, he and Howard discussed Jimi’s life and legacy at length as well as the one-time possibility of Stephen joining the Jimi Hendrix Experience.
