James Franco is a warlord ruling over a post-apocalyptic wasteland in “Future World,” an upcoming sci-fi Western he co-directed with Bruce Thierry Chung.

The newly released trailer from Lionsgate (above) shows a “Mad Max”-inspired desert dystopia complete with a motley cast of characters, including Franco’s warlord, his rival the Druglord (Milla Jovovich), the Lovelord (Snoop Dogg), and a lifelike robot named Ash (Suki Waterhouse). There’s also a young prince (played by Jeffrey Wahlberg, Mark and Donnie Wahlberg’s nephew) who leaves the oasis—one of the world’s last known safe havens—in search of medicine for his mother, the Queen (Lucy Liu).

“Future World” marks the first film James has directed since “The Disaster Artist,” last year’s Oscar-nominated Tommy Wiseau biopic. When James visited the Stern Show last December ahead of the film’s release he brought Tommy in with him and the two had a fascinating conversation with Howard. Take a listen (below).

“Future World” premieres in theaters and on demand on May 25. Watch the official trailer (above).
