AUDIO: Smashing Pumpkins Drop Track 'Solara' Ahead of Summer Reunion Tour

The Smashing Pumpkins disarmed fans all over the world this weekend by dropping a new song, “Solara.”

The release marks the Billy Corgan-fronted rock band’s first new material with founding guitarist James Iha and founding drummer Jimmy Chamberlin in over 18 years. The song was recorded with mega-producer Rick Rubin and the band’s longtime guitarist Jeff Schoeder at Shangri La Studios in Malibu, Calif., during a session in which the band reportedly laid down eight tracks in total.

It turns out the Smashing Pumpkins aren’t stopping with new music, either. The legendary rockers and past Stern Show guests are also poised to take over North America this summer with their “Shiny and Oh So Bright” reunion tour, kicking off July 12 in Glendale, Ariz., and running through Sept. 7 in Boise, Idaho.

The “Solara” debut and the Smashing Pumpkins impending tour both come on the heels of Corgan’s return to the Stern Show last October, which included a solo performance of the band’s classic tune “1979” and a candid discussion with Howard touching upon a variety of subjects, not the least of which was Corgan’s fondness for his old bandmates. “I actually really appreciate the band a lot more now,” Corgan told Howard, adding “It’s so intense that they gave me their faith … They said, ‘We will follow you down this crazy path. Whatever your weird brain is thinking, we will follow.’ And it’s so humbling to me now.”
