Showtime drama co-starring Jon Voight and Susan Sarandon returns Oct. 28

Start spreading the news … Ray Donovan is alive and well in New York City.

Liev Schreiber’s title character tried taking his own life during last season’s “Ray Donovan” finale by jumping off a building in the Big Apple, but early on in trailer for the Showtime drama’s upcoming sixth season (above) viewers learn the plunge didn’t actually kill him.

After recapping the lovelorn state Ray was in before deciding to end it all, the promo picks up with a cop named Mac (“The Wire‘s” Domenick Lombardozzi) fishing him out of the East River. Not happy to be rescued, the two trade a few blows before eventually finding a common bond. It isn’t long before the notorious Hollywood “fixer” is fixing himself up a new life in New York.

Elsewhere in the trailer, Ray’s dad Mickey (Jon Voight) suffers a possibly fatal heart attack from his prison cell and media mogul Sam Winslow (recent cast addition Susan Sarandon) re-enlists Ray’s help in the hopes of putting her thumb on the scale of a mayoral race.

“Ray Donovan” co-stars Eddie Marsan, Dash Mihok, Katherine Moennig, Pooch Hall, Kerris Dorsey, Devon Bagby, and Graham Rogers. Season 6 premieres Sunday, Oct. 28 at 9 p.m. on Showtime.
