VIDEO: First ‘Rocketman’ Teaser Stars Taron Egerton as Rock Icon Elton John

Musical fantasy film co-stars past Stern Show guest Bryce Dallas Howard

Taron Egerton sits down at a piano behind a pair of oversized sunglasses and plays quite a few iconic songs in “Rocketman,” Paramount Pictures’ upcoming musical fantasy film based on the extraordinary life and career of Grammy-winning legend and former Stern Show guest Sir Elton John.

Replete with colorful set pieces and extravagant outfits, the film’s debut teaser (above) shows the “Kingsman” and “Robin Hood” star portraying the Crocodile Rocker in the earlier days of his career, just as Elton’s music had started to take the world by storm. While the clip doesn’t offer too many plot details, it does promise an uncensored look at the superstar’s life, which appears to involve choreographed musical numbers, possible drug overdoses, and a fantastical sequence involving Elton playing the piano while flying.

Directed by Dexter Fletcher, the film co-stars Jamie Bell as Elton’s longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin, Richard Madden as famed music manager John Reid, and past Stern Show guest Bryce Dallas Howard as Elton’s mom Sheila Eileen, who passed away last December.

“Rocketman” takes flight next summer. Watch the debut teaser (above).
