Smashing Pumpkins Drop Halloween-Themed Music Video for ‘Silvery Sometimes (Ghosts)’

Billy Corgan-directed clip features an extended cameo from Stern Show celebrity superfan Mark McGrath

Smashing Pumpkins fans are getting their Halloween treat a few weeks early this year.

The recently reunited rock band and June Stern Show guests just dropped a playfully dark, haunted house-themed music video for “Silvery Sometimes (Ghosts),” a single off their forthcoming album “Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1 / LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun.”

In addition to demons, phantoms, skulls, ventriloquist dummies, and jack-o-lanterns galore, the video (above) features an extended cameo from Sugar Ray frontman and Stern Show celebrity superfan Mark McGrath. The rocker and Sirius XM host plays a fictional radio D.J. named Jackie Cherry who introduces the band to fans and then ushers them into a haunted house, where they must spend the night to win money for charity.

Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan directed the clip and stars in it alongside founding bandmates James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin as well as relative newcomer Jeff Schroeder. The same core four joined the Stern Show earlier this year to play a few songs and share the extraordinary tale of how Billy, James, and Jimmy managed to reunite after all these years. They also teased “Shiny and Oh So Bright,” the band’s upcoming 10th LP produced by Rick Rubin. “Silvery Sometimes (Ghosts)” is the album’s second single following “Solara,” a song the band performed for the Stern Show and its listeners.

Smashing Pumpkins “Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1 / LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun” arrives Nov. 16 in stores.
