VIDEO: Jake Gyllenhaal Plays a Golf Pro Turned Firefighter Whose Marriage Goes Up in Flames in ‘Wildlife’ Trailer

Paul Dano-directed film also stars Carey Mulligan and Ed Oxenbould

Jake Gyllenhaal and Carey Mulligan’s marriage is slowly dissolving in the teaser for “Wildlife,” an upcoming 1960s-set drama from freshman filmmaker Paul Dano.

Jake stars as Jerry, a Montana golf pro who loses his way after losing his job and eventually leaves his family behind to work as a firefighter near the Canadian border. This forces his wife Jeannette (“The Great Gatsby’s” Mulligan) and their 14-year-old son Joe (newcomer Ed Oxenbould) to fend for themselves as Jerry struggles to find his purpose.

In real life, Gyllenhaal has of course had little problem finding steady work. When the Oscar-nominated actor joined the Stern Show in 2015, he and Howard discussed many of his most acclaimed films over the years, from “Southpaw,” which required him to bulk up to portray a championship boxer, to “Nightcrawler,” which forced him to lose 35 pounds.

Check out a clip from Jake’s candid conversation with the King of All Media (below).

“Wildlife,” adapted from Richard Ford’s novel of the same name and co-starring Bill Camp and Zoe Margaret Colletti, opens in theaters on Oct. 19. Watch the official teaser (above).
