Anne Hathaway asks Matthew McConaughey to help her kill her husband in “Serenity,” an island-set noir sailing into theaters this October.

The newly released official trailer (above) begins with fishing boat captain Baker Dill (McConaughey) looking lost and afraid on a beautiful beach. The character lives on and works out of an idyllic tropical locale called Plymouth Island, but it seems no amount of fresh ocean air can put his soul at ease. The trailer takes a turn after his ex-wife Karen (Hathaway) tracks him down, revealing he’s come to the island to escape a haunting past and that Baker isn’t even his real name. The captain’s life gets even more complicated when Karen begs him to save her—and their young son—from her violent new husband (“Chappaquiddick” star Jason Clarke) by killing him while they’re out at sea.

“I want you to take him out on your boat and drop him in the ocean for the sharks,” Hathaway’s character tells McConaughey (above).

Matthew—who also found himself embroiled in a different kind of criminal conspiracy in this week’s trailer for “White Boy Rick”—has joined the Stern Show multiple times over the years. When he sat down with Howard in 2017, he opened up about his transition from a rom-com regular to an Oscar-winning dramatic actor. Listen to a clip from their conversation (below).

“Serenity,” written and directed by “Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight and co-starring Diane Lane, Jeremy Strong, and Djimon Hounsou, makes waves in theaters on Oct. 19. Watch the official trailer (above).
