VIDEO: Wanda Sykes Tackles Opioids, Race, and Double Standards in ‘Not Normal’ Trailer
Actress, comedian, and past Stern Show guest’s stand-up special is available now on Netflix
May 22, 2019Wanda Sykes tackles everything from politics to reality TV in “Not Normal,” available now on Netflix.
The hourlong comedy special’s official trailer (above) focuses on the actress, comedian, and past Stern Show guest sharing her thoughts on the healthcare industry’s racially based double standard. “Black people, we don’t even get our hands on opioids,” Sykes tells her audience. “They don’t even give them to us. I had a double mastectomy, you know what they sent my black ass home with? Ibuprofen.”
“White people get opioids like they’re Tic Tacs,” she continues, adding, “This shit is not normal.”
In recent years, Wanda has starred on “black-ish,” which netted her multiple Emmy nominations, and Larry David’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” but her full résumé is as long as it is impressive. She scored an Emmy win for her work on “The Chris Rock Show” back in the late 1990s, starred opposite Amy Schumer in 2017’s “Snatched,” and has headlined several comedy specials, including “Tongue United,” “I’ma Be Me,” and “What Happened … Ms. Sykes?”
On Wednesday evening, Wanda finds herself movin’ on up alongside Oscar-winning Stern Show guest Jamie Foxx as the two stars on Jimmy Kimmel’s much-anticipated live re-staging of Norman Lear’s classic sitcom “The Jeffersons.” Jimmy sat down with Howard last week and spoke about the one-night-only event as well as the return of his phony phone call show “Crank Yankers,” which also featured Sykes in the past.
