Oscar winners Matt Damon and Christian Bale team up to build the perfect American race car in the debut trailer for “Ford v Ferrari,” speeding into theaters this fall.

Based on the true story of car designer Carroll Shelby (Damon) and British-born speed demon Ken Miles (Bale), the 1960s-set film shows the duo working together to design, build, and test drive a new automobile for the Ford Motor Company which could hope to finally compete with Enzo Ferrari’s vehicles that had for years been dominating France’s famed 24 Hours of Le Mans race.

“We’re lighter, we’re faster, and if that don’t work we’re nastier,” Damon’s character explains at one point in the new trailer full of revving engines, hairpin turns, greasy workshops, and more than a few crashing cars.

Directed by James Mangold (“Logan”), “Ford v Ferrari” co-stars Caitriona Balfe, Josh Lucas, Noah Jupe, Tracy Letts, and past Stern Show guest Jon Bernthal as iconic American businessman Lee Iacocca.

“Ford v Ferrari” opens on Nov. 15.
