July has been a big month for the Highwomen, the all-female country music supergroup composed of Amanda Shires, Natalie Hemby, and recent Stern Show guests Brandi Carlile and Maren Morris.

Over the past few weeks, the band released a star-studded music video for their song “Redesigning Women,” dropped a poignant track called “Crowded Table,” covered Fleetwood Mac in Melissa McCarthy and Tiffany Haddish’s new movie trailer, and delivered their first full-length concert with the help of country music legend Dolly Parton at Rhode Island’s Newport Folk Festival.

The Elizabeth Olmstead-directed video for “Redesigning Women” (above) begins with the Highwomen putting on firefighter outfits before riding a firetruck out into a big field where they drink, try on a slew of interesting outfits, fiddle around with a Shake Weight, and eventually host a bonfire party attended by a caravan of famous female artists, including Lauren Alaina and Wynonna Judd.

“Crowded Table” (below), meanwhile, is an uplifting anthem about love, inclusiveness, and changing the world for the better. Both songs hail from the Highwomen’s self-titled debut album, arriving Sept. 6.

When Morris visited the Stern Show in May she performed in the studio and sat down with Howard for a wide-ranging interview touching upon everything from a phone call she received from Elton John to her involvement in the Highwomen, which Maren said was named after Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson’s all-male country music supergroup the Highwaymen.

“There’s been a pretty severe drought of women in country music being played on the radio the last 10 years and so I think we’re just trying to show that women can support other women and not be cutthroat and lift each other up,” Maren told Howard. “It’s been just such a pleasure to be in the studio with those gals.”

The Highwomen’s self-titled debut album arrives Sept. 6.
