“When we first came to New York, The Apollo was the first place we wanted to go,” Beatle and Stern Show favorite Paul McCartney explains in the new trailer for “The Apollo,” the upcoming HBO documentary on the legendary Harlem theater.

Having premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in April, “The Apollo” covers the venue’s rich history, from launching the careers of the likes of Billie Holiday and Aretha Franklin, to a present day adaption of author Ta-Nehisi Coates’ “Between the World and Me,” to a look at the theater’s storied Amateur Night.

From Roger Ross Williams (“Music by Prudence”), the first African American director to win an Academy Award, “The Apollo” also features interviews with past Stern Show guests Jamie Foxx, Smokey Robinson, and Pharrell Williams.

The Apollo Theater also happens to be the home to many incredible SiriusXM concerts, such as Lady Gaga, U2, and Guns N’ Roses.

“The Apollo” debuts Nov. 6 on HBO.
