A dangerous space mission leads to dire consequences for the X-Men in the final trailer for “Dark Phoenix,” arriving in June.
The latest clip begins with the group of do-gooding mutants leaving the Earth to rescue astronauts in distress. When a cosmic force accidentally gets unleashed on the X-men’s telekinetic ingenue Jean Grey (“Game of Thrones” star Sophie Turner), however, her powers become exponentially stronger while her mental state rapidly deteriorates.
Soon the gifted young heroine is turning on her own friends and mentors, including Magneto, Professor X, and Mystique, played by Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, and 2018 Stern Show guest Jennifer Lawrence, respectively. “When I lose control bad things happen, but it feels good,” Turner’s character explains just before using her mind to make a helicopter crash.
Directed by Simon Kinberg, the film co-stars Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, and Oscar winner Jessica Chastain as a mysterious presence in Jean Grey’s life.
“Dark Phoenix” opens June 7 in theaters.
