Miley Cyrus plays a pop star who lends her likeness to a robot doll on Season 5 of the sci-fi anthology series “Black Mirror,” returning to Netflix on June 5.
The new trailer for her episode—“Rachel, Jack, and Ashley Too”—focuses on Ashley (Cyrus), a music icon, and Rachel (Madison Davenport), one of her wide-eyed teenage fans. Rachel watches on enthusiastically while her idol announces Ashley Too, a line of robot-doll companions borrowing Ashley's voice and possibly a bit more.
Rachel eventually acquires an Ashley Too for her room but considering this is “Black Mirror” nothing goes as planned. Before long, it seems like the robo-doll might actually be possessed by Ashley herself. “Ahhh, get the cable out of my ass!” the Miley-voiced robot yells at one point. “Holy shit, pull it out!”
Though Miley Cyrus never copped to inhabiting a foul-mouth robot during her Stern Show debut in December, the Grammy-winning superstar did reveal her “Black Mirror” role is rather complex. “I play one character, but I play a lot of different sides of that character and there’s a lot of dimension to it,” Miley told Howard.
“Rachel, Jack, and Ashley Too” is one of three new “Black Mirror” episodes debuting next month. Watch new trailers for the other two, “Smithereens” and “Striking Vipers” (below).
