Netflix’s David Fincher-directed and Charlize Theron-produced serial killer drama returns on Aug. 16

Federal agents are on the hunt for a new serial killer in the first teaser for “Mindhunter” Season 2, arriving next month on Netflix.

Directed by David Fincher and executive produced by repeat Stern Show guest Charlize Theron, the crime drama explores the origins of the F.B.I.’s Behavior Science Unit as agents Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Tench (Holt McCallany) interview incarcerated killers in the hopes of learning more about those still at large.

The new episodes introduce Charles Manson, played by Damon Herriman—the same actor portraying the notorious cult leader in Quentin Tarantino’s new film “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” “Mindhunter” Season 2 also sees the F.B.I. investigating the Atlanta child murders, which occurred between 1979 and 1981. If Agent Ford and Agent Tench have any chance at catching the culprit, the duo must once again glean insights from incarcerated killer and necrophile Edmund Kemper (Cameron Britton).

“This person you’re after has an overwhelming fantasy life,” Kemper tells them in the short clip (above). “Fantasies of what he’s done, what he wants to do. These dreams will consume him. Soon the real world won’t even compare.

Though Tuesday’s teaser is the first look at the second season of “Mindhunter,” fans have been anxiously awaiting new episodes since Charlize first revealed the show’s return date during her April sit-down with Howard where she and Seth Rogen stopped by to promote their new political rom-com “Long Shot.” Check out more from their interview with the King of All Media here.

“Mindhunter” Season 2 premieres Aug. 16 on Netflix.
