VIDEO: Will Ferrell Leaves Julia Louis-Dreyfus to Fend for Herself in an Avalanche in Official ‘Downhill’ Trailer

Slopes-set relationship dramedy co-stars Zach Woods and Zoe Chao

An American family’s international ski trip goes to hell after a husband ditches his wife and kids during an avalanche in the quirky relationship dramedy “Downhill,” arriving in February.

The official trailer (above) begins with Billie (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), Pete (Will Ferrell), and their children enjoying an outdoor lunch at an upscale lodge in the Alps. Ferrell’s character is trying to sell his wife on a treacherous ski run, but their conversation is rudely interrupted by the onset of an avalanche. Instead of protecting his family, Pete grabs his phone and books it. While the avalanche doesn’t turn out to be deadly, it might ultimately prove to be fatal for their relationship.

“The kids were screaming because it felt like we were gonna die. And I look over at Pete and he had grabbed his phone. He was gone. Pete ran. Pete left us,” Louis-Dreyfus explains to another couple they meet, played by “Silicon Valley” star Zach Woods and “Living With Yourself” actress Zoe Chao.

Directed by Nat Faxon and Jim Rash (“The Way Way Back”), “Downhill” is a remake of the internationally acclaimed 2014 Ruben Östlund dramedy “Force Majeure.”

“Downhill” opens Feb. 28.
