VIDEO: Scarlett Johansson Returns to Her Action-Packed Roots in Final ‘Black Widow’ Trailer
Florence Pugh, David Harbour, and Rachel Weisz co-star in Marvel’s May 1 superhero prequel
March 9, 2020Scarlett Johansson takes on a plethora of powerful women in the final trailer for Marvel’s “Black Widow,” kicking and punching its way into theaters in May.
The Oscar-nominated Stern Show veteran stars once again as Natasha Romanoff, a.k.a. Black Widow, a super spy turned superhero who has been a part of the Avengers since the original 2012 film. In the final trailer for the standalone prequel, however, she finds herself estranged from her more famous super-powered allies and forced to contend with some nefarious forces from her past.
“Before I was an Avenger I made mistakes, and a lot of enemies,” Scarlett says (above), adding, “At some point, we all have to choose between who the world wants you to be and who you are. I made my choice. I’m done running.”
She’s speaking metaphorically, of course, as the new clip shows her running—and fighting and shooting—aplenty. Her foes seem too many to count, from a bunch of spies who’ve undergone similar training as Natasha to the powerful new supervillain who controls them. “His call sign is Taskmaster. He controls the red room. They are manipulated, fully conscious but no choices,” Scarlett’s co-star Florence Pugh helpfully explains.
Directed by Cate Shortland, “Black Widow” also stars “Stranger Things” actor David Harbour and “The Favourite’s” Rachel Weisz as well as William Hurt, Ray Winstone, and O-T Fagbenle. Stern Show veteran Robert Downey Jr. is also reportedly set to make a cameo as Iron Man.
“Black Widow” arrives May 1.
