A small Massachusetts town is rocked by a shocking murder in the trailer for the Apple TV miniseries “Defending Jacob,” starring Chris Evans, “Downton Abbey’s” Michelle Dockery, and Oscar-winning Stern Show veteran J.K. Simmons.

Evans, best known as Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, plays Andy Barber, an assistant district attorney whose 14-year-old son Jacob (Jaeden Martell) is unexpectedly accused of murder. Based on William Landay’s best-selling novel of the same name, the character-driven crime drama follows Evan’s character as he’s forced to choose between his sworn duty to uphold justice and his unconditional love for his son.

“Motherless Brooklyn’s” Cherry Jones and “First Man’s” Pablo Schreiber also star on the series, which sees Simmons playing Jacob’s grandfather Billy Barber, a convicted murderer and rapist who offers some wisdom to his son Andy after he visits him in prison.

“You can be a good man or you can be a good father,” the 2015 Stern Show guest states (above).

“Defending Jacob” debuts April 24 on Apple TV.
