John Mayer Meets Up With Maren Morris for ’80s-Inspired ‘Last Train Home’ Music Video

New track appears on guitarist’s album “Sob Rock,” out July 16

June 4, 2021

Two-handed synth stabs, catchy guitar licks, and an assortment of well-worn leather jackets set the 1980s vibe of John Mayer’s music video for “Last Train Home,” the latest single off his upcoming eighth studio album, “Sob Rock.” Mayer released the track at midnight along with the nine other song titles fans will hear on his new album, due out July 16.

Joining John in the train-station set video is Grammy-winning singer-songwriter and Stern Show guest Maren Morris. And adding that extra bit of retro sound is Toto keyboardist Greg Phillinganes and the band’s touring percussionist Lenny Castro.

Tapping into the sound, look, and feel of a bygone decade was an intentional move on Mayer’s part. In an interview earlier this week, he talked about writing “Sob Rock” during the pandemic and asking himself, “What music makes me feel like everything’s going to be OK?”
