Who says country music and heavy metal can’t mix?

Chris Stapleton just dropped a cover of Metallica’s hit 1992 single “Nothing Else Matters.” The Grammy-winning country star’s dark and soulful rendition appears on “The Metallica Blacklist,” an upcoming 30th anniversary tribute to the heavy metal pioneers’ seminal self-titled album, also known as “The Black Album.”

Stapleton is far from the only big-name artist contributing to “Blacklist.” On Wednesday, singer, songwriter, and recent “Saturday Night Live” performer Phoebe Bridgers released her own version of “Nothing Else Matters” for the compilation. In previous weeks, Jason Isbell, St. Vincent, My Morning Jacket, and Miley Cyrus and Elton John paid similar homage.

“The Metallica Blacklist” arrives alongside a deluxe reissue of “The Black Album,” containing performances, rehearsals, demos, remastered original tracks, and more.

Stapleton, meanwhile, is currently headlining his All-American Roadshow Tour on the heels of his November “Starting Over.” As Stern Show fans will remember, he sat down with Howard in 2017 for a wide-ranging interview and also performed his hit “Broken Halos” live in the studio. Take another look at the memorable performance (below).

Metallica’s 30th anniversary “Black Album” reissue and “The Metallica Blacklist” arrive Sept. 10.
