Nicolas Cage, the star of popcorn flicks ranging from of “Con Air” and “The Rock” to “National Treasure” and “Face/Off,” embraces one of his wildest roles yet in “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent,” an upcoming action-comedy in which the actor plays himself.

The official trailer as Nic struggles through a rough patch in his career. Tired of losing out on auditions, the once iconic movie star tells his agent Ted (Neil Patrick Harris) he’s giving up on acting for good. But everything changes when Javi (Pedro Pascal), a mysterious billionaire and Nic Cage superfan, offers the actor a million dollars just to attend his birthday party.

“It’s the easiest gig ever. You play yourself!” Ted explains over a back waxing (above).

Cage and Javi becomes fast friends, but their adventures take a bizarre turn after two C.I.A. agents (Tiffany Haddish and Ike Barinholtz) recruit the actor to spy on Javi, who turns out to be a powerful drug kingpin running an international crime syndicate.

Directed by Tom Gormican and written by Gormican and Kevin Etten, “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” also stars Sharon Horgan, Lily Sheen, Alessandra Mastronardi, and Jacob Scipio.

“The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” arrives April 22 in theaters.
