Margot Robbie, Christian Bale, and John David Washington star in the November David O. Russell film

Chris Rock stumbles into an unfortunate predicament in the trailer for David O. Russell’s star-studded crime dramedy “Amsterdam,” arriving in November.

“You have a dead white man in a box. Not even a casket. It doesn’t even have a top on it,” he tells a small group of onlookers played by John David Washington, Christian Bale, and Margot Robbie. “Who do you think is going to get in trouble here?” Rock continues.

Based partly on a true story, at least according to the trailer, the ’30s-set ensemble follows Rock and the trio of zany miscreants as they embark upon an outrageous quest to find the dead man’s killer.

Written and directed by Russell of “Silver Linings Playbook” and “American Hustle” fame, “Amsterdam” boasts an impressive cast that also features Robert De Niro, Anya Taylor Joy, Mike Myers, Zoe Saldana, Rami Malek, Michael Shannon, and Taylor Swift, among others.

Though one of his generation’s most celebrated comedians, Rock has in recent years also begun flaunting his dramatic chops. In addition to “Amsterdam,” the repeat Stern Show recently starred in the film “Spiral” and on the crime series “Fargo.” During his sit down with Howard in 2020, Chris opened up all about his love for film and TV in addition to discussing subjects like his upbringing and love life.
