VIDEO: Seth Rogen Plays Uncle to a Young Spielberg in ‘The Fabelmans’ Trailer

Iconic director’s semi-autobiographical coming-of-age drama hits theaters on Nov. 11

Hollywood legend Steven Spielberg gives fans a glimpse at his own upbringing in the official trailer for “The Fabelmans,” a semi-autobiographical coming-of-age drama about the “Jaws” and “Jurassic Park” director’s formative years as an aspiring filmmaker.

Co-written by Spielberg and his “Lincoln” and “West Side Story” collaborator Tony Kushner, the post-World War II era film follows Sammy (Gabriel LaBelle), a young man who butts heads with his family over whether to pursue his cinematic passions. “The Fabelmans” also stars Michelle Williams as his artistic mother, Paul Dano as his more practical father, and Seth Rogen as a friend of the family who Sammy and his siblings call “uncle.”

“You stop making movies, it’ll break your mother’s heart,” Rogen’s character tells Sammy in the trailer (above).

While Rogen’s oeuvre doesn’t yet rival Spielberg’s, the actor, comedian, director, and repeat Stern Show guest is no doubt a gifted storyteller in his own right. During a sit-down with Howard in 2021, Seth shared riveting tales about everything from peeing in Tom Cruise’s driveway to a bizarre encounter with Nic Cage. He also told listeners about the “mind-blowing” meeting he had with Spielberg and a denim-clad George Lucas, during which the latter wouldn’t stop talking about his real-life spaceship and the end of days. Watch a clip from the conversation (below) and catch the full Seth Rogen interview here.

“The Fabelmans” hits theaters on Nov. 11.
