Cover appears on the Boss’s November album “Only the Strong Survive”

Sweet sounds were coming down for Bruce Springsteen fans on Friday morning as the Boss released a music video for his cover of the Commodores classic “Nightshift.”

In the clip, a suit-wearing Springsteen sings his soul out on a dimly stage while accompanied by his band and backup vocalists. Released by the Commodores in 1985, the heartfelt tune pays tribute to R&B trailblazers Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson, who each passed away in 1984.

“Nightshift” follows “Do I Love You (Indeed I Do)” as the second single off Bruce’s upcoming cover album, “Only the Strong Survive.” Arriving next month, the 15-track effort pays homage to soul legends ranging from Frank Wilson and Jackie Shane to the Walker Brothers and Jimmy Ruffin.

Produced by Ron Aniello and engineered by Rob Lebret, “Only the Strong Survive” features guest vocals by Sam Moore, contributions from the E Street Horns, and backing vocals from Soozie Tyrell, Lisa Lowell, Michelle Moore, Curtis King Jr., Dennis Collins, and Fonzi Thornton.

“Only the Strong Survive” is available Nov. 11.
