Metallica Drops ‘If Darkness Had a Son’ Music Video and Trailer for Worldwide Listening Party

Band’s long-awaited album “72 Seasons” arrives April 14

Metallica rocked the heavy metal world this week with a blistering new music video and teaser for a one-night-only theatrical listening party.

The hard rock icons and repeat Stern Show guests debuted a clip for “If Darkness Had a Son,” a thunderous, seven-minute single hailing from the band’s April album, “72 Seasons.” Directed by Tim Saccenti, who also shot November’s “Lux Æterna,” the high-octane video shows James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Robert Trujillo, and Kirk Hammett awash in blue light while rocking out on stage.

Metallica also dropped a teaser (below) for an upcoming event enabling fans to experience the band’s music like never before as “72 Seasons” is debuted in select theaters, complete with Dolby Atmos sound, music videos for all 12 tracks, and even exclusive commentary from the band.

Produced by James, Lars, and Greg Fidelman, “72 Seasons” is Metallica’s first full-length studio album since 2016’s “Hardwired…To Self-Destruct.” As fans undoubtedly remember, Lars announced the arrival of both “72 Seasons” and the band’s next world tour during a visit to the Stern Show late last year.
