Metallica Drops Fiery Music Video for New Single ’72 Seasons’

Song doubles as titular track off the legendary rockers' new album

March 31, 2023

Metallica takes face-melting heavy metal to the next level in the music video for “72 Seasons,” the fourth single off their April 14 album of the same name.

The fiery, eight-and-a-half-minute long clip was directed by Tim Saccenti, who also shot November’s “Lux Æterna” and March’s “If Darkness Had a Son.” The new video follows the iconic foursome — James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Robert Trujillo, and Kirk Hammett — as they rock out in front of various intergalactic backdrops, like solar eclipses, uncharted planets, and black holes.

Produced by James, Lars, and Greg Fidelman, “72 Seasons” serves as Metallica’s first full-length studio album since 2016’s “Hardwired…To Self-Destruct.” Lars foretold the arrival of both “72 Seasons” and the band’s next world tour during a 2022 visit to the Stern Show. “72 Seasons” arrives April 14.
