VIDEO: Howard Reacts to Trevor Noah’s Exceedingly Positive Grammys Monologue

“I think he did what he had to do,” the King of All Media says of the comedian's efforts

Comedian Jo Koy received plenty of pushback last month after delivering a controversial opening monologue at the Golden Globes which roasted several of the celebrities in attendance. Fellow comedian Trevor Noah took things in a different direction on Sunday night while hosting the 66th Annual Grammy Awards.

“He did the opposite of a roast. He was like a cheerleader. He didn’t say one negative thing about anybody,” Howard noted Monday morning before playing some clips of the famed funnyman fawning over everyone from producer Mark Ronson and actress Meryl Streep to rappers 21 Savage and Doja Cat.

“21 Savage is so great. You know how great he is? He always pays his taxes on time,” Howard joked. “And you know what else? Doja Cat flosses every single day. That’s why she has such great breath.”

In all seriousness, Howard felt that Trevor Noah — like Jo Koy and most award show hosts before him — was put in the difficult position of having to entertain everyone without offending anyone. “I felt so bad for the guy,” Howard concluded. “Trevor Noah is a comedian … [and] I think he did what he had to do.”
