"The tapes of people screaming bring back memories of listening to those tapes when I was a kid," the Stern Show staffer tells Howard

A discussion during Monday’s show revealed just how deep longtime staffer Richard Christy’s Halloween obsession runs. While your average person might get into the spirit in October, Richard told Howard he starts celebrating beginning in August.

“As soon as it’s 100 days to Halloween that’s when it’s crunch time,” Richard explained. Putting his unmentionables where his mouth was, Richard even revealed he was already wearing his Halloween-themed underwear, adorned with several Dracula faces.

Staffer Will Murray was able to provide even more detail of Richard’s passion for the holiday, as the two commute daily together on the train. While some passengers might read a newspaper, Richard peruses publications such as “Horrorhound,” “Rue Morgue,” and “Fangoria.”

“I look over and there’s like decomposed people on this magazine,” Will recalled. “The cover this morning was like the Church of Satan versus the Satanic Temple.”

Evidently, not all of Richard’s fellow commuters are quite on board with the holiday, with one man even shushing the staffer for blasting Halloween sound effects too loudly through his headphones on the quiet car.

“The tapes of people screaming bring back memories of listening to those tapes when I was a kid,” Richard explained.

Some of the greatest hits to make Richard’s playlist include: “Cannibal Eating a Person,” “Woman Screaming While Being Tortured,” and the “classic” “Maniacal Laughing and Cuckoo Clock.”
