‘Game of Thrones’ Fan Theory Suggests Jon Snow Could Marry Sansa Stark

Evidence from the books reveals more incest could possibly be on its way to the HBO hit

October 4, 2016

“Game of Thrones” fans jump on internet theories like hungry dogs on a Ramsay, and there’s one gaining some traction following the HBO hit’s Emmy-winning sixth season.

According to vlogger Alt Shift X, there have been hints in George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” novels to suggest that Jon Snow (played on the show by Kit Harington) and Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner), who were raised as siblings, may end up tying the knot.

The theory derives from Martin’s prequel book, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” in which representatives of five houses compete in the “Ashford tournament.” The champions are Lyonel Baratheon, Tybolt Lannister, Leo Tyrell, Humfrey Hardyng and Valaar Targaryen. The order of those champions corresponds directly with Sansa’s romantic interest thus far in the series: she was engaged to Joffrey Baratheon, engaged to Loras Tyrell, married to Tyrion Lannister, and married to Harrold Hardyng (in the books). That would mean a Targaryen would be next to win Sansa’s heart and, the “Game of Thrones” Season 6 finale revealed that Jon Snow is in fact a Targaryen.

Of course, “Game of Thrones” has never shied away from incestuous relationships, with Cersei and Jamie Lannister’s the most prominent.

Fans will see if the theory holds water when the seventh season of “Game of Thrones” premieres on HBO in 2017.
