What’s Coming and Going on Netflix, HBO Now, Amazon Prime, and Hulu in April
From Carrie Fisher's final performance on “Catastrophe” to an all-new Louis C.K. comedy special, here's everything streaming next month

The digital streaming giants have revealed their incoming content for April 2017 and, unless the world is being subjected to a cruel and carefully coordinated April Fools’ Day prank, there will be loads of great stuff to choose from.
Netflix’s new movie offerings include “Gremlins,” “Schindler’s List,” “Cool Runnings,” and “Tropic Thunder.” Other additions include Season 2 of Bill Hader, Fred Armisen, and Seth Meyers’ hilarious IFC faux-documentary series “Documentary Now!” and classic stand-up specials from comedy legend Richard Pryor and 2016 Stern Show guest Kevin Hart. Netflix originals to keep an eye out for next month include friend of the show Chelsea Handler’s sophomore season of “Chelsea,” an original stand-up special from Louis C.K., and “Hot Girls Wanted: Turned On”—a six-part documentary series about sex, technology, and porn.
Sadly, Netflix also waves goodbye to a few fan favorites in April. All four of Christopher Reeve’s “Superman” movies are flying away, in addition to TV shows like “X-Files,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Firefly,” and “House, M.D.”
HBO Now will debut several recent theatrical hits in April, including “Suicide Squad” and “War Dogs,” which brought Jonah Hill into the studio last August. HBO Now is releasing a slew of classics next month, too, like “Unforgiven,” “Slumdog Millionaire,” “Urban Cowboy,” “Fast Times at Ridgemont High, “Play Misty for Me,” “The Deer Hunter,” and Martin Scorsese’s 1991 remake of “Cape Fear,” which involved Juliette Lewis sucking on Robert De Niro’s thumb, according to her 2016 conversation with Howard.
The premium network will also be streaming its TV offerings, including season premieres of “Veep” and “Silicon Valley” as well as the series finale of “Girls,” starring Lena Dunham who discussed the show at length with Howard in February. Additionally, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will become available on HBO Now on April 28.
One of the most anticipated offerings coming to Amazon Prime Video in April is the Season 3 release of the U.K. comedy “Catastrophe,” co-starring the late, great Carrie Fisher in one of her final on-screen performances. Other Amazon offerings to look out for next month are “Almost Famous,” “Tommy Boy,” two “Robocop” films, and Sally Field’s “Hello, My Name Is Doris,” which she discussed with Howard during her Stern Show debut last March. The streamer will also debut a Hugh Hefner docu-series called “American Playboy” on April 7.
Hulu, meanwhile, launches its original series “The Handmaid’s Tale” on April 26 and will add several films to its library next month, including “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” “Thelma & Louise,” and “Saturday Night Fever.” It’s also a place to stream several broadcast TV shows, including Fox’s upcoming “Prison Break” revival.
