Comedian and 2015 Stern Show guest reveals the news on TwitterMay 24, 2017
Ellen DeGeneres is joining forces with Netflix for her first stand-up comedy special in 15 years.
The comedian, talk-show host, “Finding Dory” star, and 2015 Stern Show guest revealed the news Wednesday on Twitter during a back-and-forth with the digital streamer:
Looks like it’s been 15 years since you did a stand-up special, @TheEllenShow. How about one for Netflix?— Netflix US (@netflix) May 24, 2017
Let me think about it. Ok I’m in. https://t.co/kUAdHyXAjS— Ellen DeGeneres (@TheEllenShow) May 24, 2017
Ellen shared further details about the genesis for her upcoming special later in the day on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”
“Earlier this week, I got a Tweet from the people at Netflix and I have good news and bad news,” she said, according to the Hollywood Reporter. “The bad news is they wouldn’t tell me what happened to Barb on ‘Stranger Things,’ but the good news is they asked if I was interested in doing a stand-up special. I said I’m going to have to think about it and then 30 seconds later I said yes.”
“It has been 15 years since I did a stand-up special. 15 years. And I’m writing it now, I can’t wait. I’ll keep you posted when and where I’m gonna shoot my Netflix special. I’m excited to do it; I’m excited for you to see it. And now, each one of you, you get to Netflix & chill with me. How about that?” she continued.
Ellen is one of several A-list comedians to make news in recent months by agreeing to do an exclusive stand-up special for Netflix. Other past Stern Show guests who took the plunge include Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, Dave Chappelle, Louis C.K., Tracy Morgan, Amy Schumer, and Sarah Silverman.
