Jake Gyllenhaal and Tatiana Maslany Star in ‘Stronger’ Trailer
Film based on the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings also features Miranda Richardson
June 23, 2017Jake Gyllenhaal turns in a compelling performance as a real-life survivor of the 2013 Boston Marathon attack in the new trailer for “Stronger.” Jeff Bauman was waiting near the finish line for his girlfriend Erin Hurley when the first bombs went off.
“He doesn’t show up for anything,” says Hurley (played by “Orphan Black” star Tatiana Maslany) in the preview (above). “Then he shows up.”
Bauman would end up losing both of his legs. After tragedy strikes, the couple then struggles to stay together as Bauman deals with his new disability, as well as the pressures that come from being a Boston hero. “Stronger” is based on the autobiography by the same name written by Bauman, which recounts the immediate aftermath of the bombings, as well as his long road to recovery.
In addition to Gyllenhaal and Maslany, the film also stars Miranda Richardson and Clancy Brown as Bauman’s mother and father.
Critics have already begun suggesting Gyllenhaal could clean up come awards season for his performance in “Stronger.” In 2015, Jake told Howard about what it took to prepare for his Golden Globe-nominated role in “Nightcrawler,” losing around 35 pounds for the part. “Stronger” comes to theaters September 22.
