VIDEO: Coldplay Performs Tribute Song for Houston’s Hurricane Harvey Victims

“This is a new song and we'll never play this again” frontman Chris Martin tells a Miami crowd

Coldplay canceled a concert last Friday in Houston as Hurricane Harvey approached, but on Monday the Chris Martin-led rock band paid tribute to the ailing Texas city by performing a newly penned tune.

“This is a new song and we’ll never play this again,” Martin told concertgoers at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium. “It’s a one-off and it’s called ‘Houston.’”

“Sometimes you might think that as a popular band or whatever, we don’t give a shit about where we are, but we really do because we understand that we wouldn’t be here without you guys and girls,” the rock star and Stern Show regular added before kicking off the touching tribute.

The band has since uploaded the performance to its YouTube page. Check it out (above).

The death toll in Texas has reached double digits in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, which has left thousands in need of rescue throughout much of the region, besieged by catastrophic floods. Though Coldplay canceled last week’s Houston concert out of concern for fan safety, the band has vowed to reschedule the event. Chris even sang about returning to Houston in his new song: “I know nothing’s gonna break the will of Houston. Oh, how we can’t wait to go down there again.”

Coldplay’s North American tour continues through October, with the band heading to South America in November. Click here for more on the story and get more on Chris’ most recent Stern Show visit here.
