VIDEO: Carl Encounters a Hungry Stranger in ‘Walking Dead’s’ New York Comic Con Trailer

AMC’s zombie drama, starring Andrew Lincoln and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, returns for Season 8 on Oct. 22

Carl Grimes encounters a hungry, chatty stranger in the latest “Walking Dead” Season 8 teaser, which AMC debuted over the weekend from New York Comic Con.

The three-minute clip (above) begins with Carl (Chandler Riggs)—the one-eyed, shaggy-haired, gun-toting progeny of series protagonist Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln)—pulling over his van on the highway in the hopes of filling up his gas tank. He wanders past overturned vehicles and long-dead corpses en route to a filling station, but before he’s able to syphon any gas he’s startled by the voice of someone watching him.

Carl draws his gun and looks for the unseen man, who admits he had a microwave thrown at him before breaking into a monologue about showering travelers with kindness—and possibly food. Carl eventually comes face-to-face with the potential foe and orders him to put his hands up, but the clip cuts to black before his identity is revealed.

The short preview doesn’t feature any of the other survivors—like Rick, Carol (Melissa McBride), and Daryl (Norman Reedus)—nor does it show the villainous Negan (Stern Show veteran Jeffrey Dean Morgan), but it does imply the long-running zombie drama might soon be introducing new characters with curious intent.

“The Walking Dead” Season 8 premieres Sunday, Oct. 22 at 9 p.m. on AMC. Watch the latest sneak peek (above) and get more from Howard’s sit down with Morgan here.
