HBO documentary debuts digitally on Veterans Day

October 26, 2017

Combat canines and their human handlers share an unbreakable bond in the newly released trailer for HBO’s upcoming Channing Tatum-produced documentary “War Dog: A Soldier’s Best Friend.”

Debuting digitally on Veterans Day, the film explores the poignant relationship between three U.S. Special Operations soldiers and the K9s who served alongside them in combat and, in some cases, saved their lives.

“My daughter has a daddy because of Pepper,” SOCOM veteran Dave Nielsen reveals in the trailer (above).

The film also explores the history of the U.S. military’s use of K9s, including everything from finding and disarming the enemy to providing emotional support to deployed soldiers.

“There’s a profound link between handler and dog,” another of the documentary subjects explains.

“War Dog: A Soldier’s Best Friend” is directed by Deborah Scranton who also serves as producer along with Brett Rodriguez, Reid Carolin, Peter Kiernan, and Tatum, who made his Stern Show debut in 2015. The film hits HBO on Nov. 13 at 8 p.m. and hits HBO’s digital platforms on Nov. 11. Check out the official trailer (above).
