Alice Cooper Debuts Music Video for the First Song He Ever Wrote, ‘The Sound of A’

Rediscovered track appears on Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s latest album, “Paranormal”

Alice Cooper has dropped a new music video for a very old song.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and past Stern Show guest just premiered the video for “The Sound of A,” the closing track off his July album “Paranormal.”

While the song may be new to fans, Cooper actually penned it back in 1967. In fact, it’s credited with being the first song he ever wrote entirely on his own. But the track was forgotten for decades until Dennis Dunaway, the Alice Cooper Band’s original bassist, rediscovered it and helped Cooper rerecord it for his new album.

“The Sound of A” has a psychedelic feel to it, complete with organs, trippy guitar solos, and the like. But the black-and-white video (above) for the song is a bit more ominous. It’s composed entirely of close-up shots of a variety of people, including children, wearing Alice’s signature goth-glam makeup.

“The Sound of A” will be released on Feb. 23 as a single and will include four previously unreleased live recordings from a 2017 performance in Columbus, Ohio. In March, Cooper kicks off a North American tour in Ontario.
