Matthew McConaughey plays the father of a teenage drug kingpin in “White Boy Rick,” the upcoming biopic about Richard Wershe Jr. who at 14 years old became America’s youngest ever undercover FBI informant.

The trailer (above) opens with the newly nicknamed “White Boy” Rick (Richie Merritt) climbing his way up the hustling ladder in 1984 Detroit at the height of the crack cocaine epidemic. Improbably, Rick soon also manages to convince his factory worker dad (McConaughey) to let him deal drugs and even cooperate with government agents—all before he’s old enough to drive.

McConaughey has joined the Stern Show on multiple occasions in the past and in 2017 the Oscar-winning actor revealed his real-life family could get pretty wild, too. He also told Howard he has drawn inspiration from his own dad’s personality, saying it has even helped him get into character on set. “My dad was a guy who woke up every morning, threw his legs over the side of his bed, said ‘Today’s gonna be the day,'” Matthew explained. Listen to a clip from Matt’s most recent sit-down with the King of All Media (below).

Directed by Yann Demange, “White Boy Rick” co-stars Bel Powley, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Bruce Dern, and Brian Tyree Henry. The film opens this fall in theaters. Watch the trailer (above).
