VIDEO: John Krasinski Is a C.I.A. Desk Jockey Forced to Take on a Dangerous Mission in Official ‘Jack Ryan’ Trailer

Tom Clancy-inspired spy series premieres Aug. 31 on Amazon Prime

John Krasinski gives it a go as one of literature’s most legendary spies in the official trailer for “Jack Ryan,” an upcoming Amazon Prime series highlighting the early days of the Tom Clancy character of the same name.

Ryan begins the newly released trailer (above) as an up-and-coming, relatively green C.I.A. analyst. “I work behind a desk,” he explains. “I write reports.” After uncovering a foreboding global terrorist plot, however, his higher-ups force him into the field for the very first time. It’s a dangerous mission and Jack is a reluctant action hero, but as anyone who has read Clancy’s spy series (or seen the feature film adaptations) can attest, the character usually winds up pulling through in the end.

Krasinski, husband to actress and 2015 Stern Show guest Emily Blunt, remains best known for his many years on NBC’s “The Office,” but this is far from his first action role. He previously played a soldier in Michael Bay’s “13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi” and just earlier this year wrote, directed, and starred alongside Blunt in the action-heavy supernatural horror film “A Quiet Place.” With “Jack Ryan” John becomes the fifth man to portray the character on screen, following Chris Pine, Ben Affleck, Harrison Ford, and the “Hunt for Red October” original, recent Stern Show guest Alec Baldwin.

“Jack Ryan,” co-starring Abbie Cornish (“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”), Wendell Pierce (“The Wire”), and Ali Suliman (“The Looming Tower”), debuts Aug. 31 on Amazon Prime. Watch the official trailer (above).
