VIDEO: J.J. Abrams and Stephen King’s ‘Castle Rock’ Delivers Creepy New Trailer
10-episode anthology series haunts Hulu July 25
July 10, 2018Hulu dropped the official trailer on Tuesday for its upcoming anthology show “Castle Rock,” inspired by the various intersecting works of horror master Stephen King and executive produced by repeat Stern Show guest and recent “Star Trek” and “Star Wars” mastermind J.J. Abrams.
The 10-episode series stars André Holland as death-row attorney Henry Deaver, who returns to his extra-creepy hometown of Castle Rock, Maine, in the hopes of helping “the Kid” (Bill Skarsgård), a mysterious young man who seemingly just materialized in the nearby state prison.
In addition to hinting at a possible main storyline for “Castle Rock,” the new trailer (above) showcases a multitude of Stephen King-related Easter eggs, from a newspaper clipping about a rabid dog (“Cujo”) to several scenes set within the walls of the prison in “The Shawshank Redemption.” A few casting choices should be familiar to King fans, too, as Skarsgård portrayed Pennywise the Clown in the 2017 film “It” and Henry’s mom Ruth is played by Sissy Spacek who famously starred as the tortured titular protagonist in the 1976 film “Carrie.”
“Castle Rock,” also featuring Melanie Lynskey (“Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later”), Terry O’Quinn (“Lost”), Jane Levy (“Don’t Breathe”), and Scott Glenn (“Daredevil”), debuts July 25 on Hulu. Watch the official trailer (above).
