VIDEO: ‘Stranger Things’ Hints at Possible Season 3 Premiere Date in Mall-Set Teaser

Sci-fi drama’s latest promo follows last week’s news of 12 Emmy Award nominations

July 16, 2018

Netflix debuted a fresh “Stranger Things” Season 3 teaser on Monday and introduced fans to the state-of-the-art Starcourt Mall, purportedly coming to the town of Hawkins in the summer of 1985.

The 90-second promo (above) doesn’t ostensibly reveal any upcoming plot points for the digital streamer’s critically acclaimed sci-fi drama. In fact, it’s unclear whether the nod to a summer arrival refers to a Season 3 premiere date, the time of year in which the new episodes will be set, or something else entirely. However, following a series of shots teasing typical mall offerings of the era—including Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run”—we do get a quick scene with “Stranger Things” cast members Steve (Joe Keery) and Robin (Maya Hawke). The two are dressed like sailors and managing the cash register at a food court ice cream shop called Scoops Ahoy.

This latest “Stranger Things” promo follows a black-and-white, behind-the-scenes April offering which showed the cast and crew gearing up to film a new season and featured several franchise newcomers, including Cary Elwes, Jake Busey, and the aforementioned Hawke, the 20-year-old daughter of actors Ethan Hawke and Stern Show veteran Uma Thurman.

More recently, the series was nominated for 12 Emmy Awards, including for Outstanding Drama Series as well as performances delivered by David Harbour and Millie Bobby Brown. Check out the complete list of nominations here and take a look at Monday morning’s tweet from “Stranger Things” which has already been viewed over a million times (below).
